SUNLESS TANNING FAQ'S
How
does
the tanning process happen?
Our MagicTan system works by creating a response with
the top layers of skin. Specially formulated Dihydroxyacetone
(DHA) sugars, bronzer blend, aloe and moisturizers are finely
misted on to the skin, which then reacts naturally with the protein
in the top layers of the skin creating a golden bronze, healthy
and soft, streak-free color.

Is the process safe
for consumers?
Yes. All of the components in our tanning solution are
approved by the FDA and have been used in food and/or cosmetics
for several decades.

What
about allergic reactions to chemicals used in the tanning solution?
All of the components in the MagicTan tanning solution have
been used in cosmetics and food products for decades. These
components are approved for use on the skin and are considered
safe.

How
is the tanning solution applied to the skin?
The MagicTan system is a full-body, DHA tanning process that utilizes a new
misting technology. This is a revolutionary process that allows the system
to apply a uniform amount of tanning solution to all parts of the body. When
the special MagicTan solution passes through the system’s 40 nozzles, the
particles of solution are polarized making it cover all surfaces of the skin
evenly. When the tanning process is finished, the user simply steps out of
the booth, towels-off any excess mist, gets dressed, and exits. The result
is a uniform, natural-looking tan in less than five minutes.

What
is DHA?
Dihydroxyacetone is derived from a vegetable source, most likely sugar beets.
Some German scientists in the 1920’s were experimenting with DHA [it's used
in the X-ray process] and noticed that it turned the skin brown. In 1960,
Coppertone introduced QT or Quick Tanning, a product that almost single-handedly
destroyed the market for decades. In the 1970’s the Food and Drug Administration
added DHA to their list of approved cosmetic ingredients. Then, sometime
in the 1980’s, the cosmetic companies found a way to produce better results
[browner, less orange] with DHA. The secret: better refining processes now
produce higher quality, more predictable DHA.

Does
it turn the skin orange?
No! In the past, self-tanners gave many individuals an unnatural orange glow
and caused streaking. Most of these undesirable results were caused by improper
or ineffective application techniques. Applying cremes and lotions by hand
usually results in excessive amounts being absorbed in the skin. Excessive
amounts applied in a single application can give an orange glow to the skin.
Unnatural dark spots may also appear in dry or thick-skinned areas such as
elbows, knees, and knuckles because these areas have a tendency to absorb
more of the creme. Hand held spray-on applicators tend to run and cause streaking.
This new technology used to apply the MagicTan solution assures that all
areas of the body get a uniform coating of the solution in the exact quantity
required in producing a golden brown tan.

What
about people with fair skin that has never been able to tan?
The MagicTan system was designed specifically for individuals who can't or
don't want to tan conventionally.

What
should people wear in the tanning booth?
Many people do not wear anything. The room is completely private, so tanning
in the nude it is perfectly acceptable. However, a bathing suit, undergarments,
or anything else can be worn, the bronzer we use for initial color is water-soluble
and will wash out of any clothing.

What
happens if the mist gets into the user’s eyes?
We suggest keeping the eyes closed during the misting process, but there
is nothing in the mist that is harmful to eyes.
Will
it make the user feel sticky like lotions do?
No. Once the user leaves the MagicTan system and dries off, their skin will
feel soft and pliable because of the moisturizing components. It will not
feel sticky
Is
the user wet when getting out of the booth?
The mist applied in the MagicTan system is very fine, much like the mist
floating in the air on a foggy day. By the time the user steps out of the
booth most of the mist will have dried, but there may still be a few moist
areas. They may see small droplets clinging to the body hair on arms or legs.
This remaining moisture can be removed quite easily by toweling dry. There’s
no worry about wiping off the solution with the towel. Toweling does not
streak the tan, and any solution that comes off on the towel was excess and
will not affect the tan.

Does
the mist leave an unpleasant odor on the user?
No. MagicTan has a specially formulated solution that has pleasant odor.
Will
the user get sick if they breathe during the session?
We recommend that users keep their mouth closed during the actual misting
process, which lasts about 20 seconds. We make this recommendation because
most individuals would prefer not to breathe in the mist even though there
is nothing in it that would cause any harm. However, if there is a history
of asthma or other respiratory illnesses we do not recommend tanning in the
MagicTan system until consulting with a physician.

How
long after the tanning session can the user put their clothes back on?
Once the user has towel dried there is little chance of the bronzer or DHA
getting on their clothes. If they pursue any strenuous physical activity
after the MagicTan session, perspiration may cause some of the bronzer to
transfer to their clothing. Since the bronzer is completely water-soluble
it will wash out.

Does
this system cause freckles in people who usually freckle when tanning?
No. There is nothing in the MagicTan solution that will cause more freckles
to break out. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes become less
pronounced because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color
differentiation between the blemishes and the rest of the skin.

Will
the user get a better tan if they tan twice in the same day?
Yes. Tanning twice in the same day will create a darker tan, but we do not
recommend back-to-back sessions. Tanning back to back does not give the DHA
a chance to set between tans, and increases the chance that your tan may
have an orange glow. Waiting 12 to 24 hours between tans will eliminate this
potential problem.
How
soon after the tanning session can the user shower?
We recommend that the user wait at least 3 hours after tanning to give the
DHA enough time to fully set. If they shower earlier, they may diminish the
intensity of the tan. When they do shower the initial tan created by the
water-soluble bronzer will wash off, but the DHA will remain and create a
long-term tan.
